Insulin Resistance and Hypertension

چکیده

Insulin resistance refers to the reduction in insulinmediated glucose uptake in insulin-sensitive tissues, specifically in skeletal muscle. As a compensatory response, hyperinsulinemia ensues to maintain normal blood glucose levels. In epidemiological studies, fasting insulin level is commonly used as a surrogate marker of insulin resistance. In normoglycemic subjects, fasting insulin correlated well with whole-body glucose uptake (r 0.68) as measured by the “gold standard” euglycemic hyperinsulinemic clamp method, although the correlation was lower in individuals with impaired glucose tolerance or type 2 diabetes mellitus.1 Although fasting insulin is a reasonable measure of insulin resistance, it is potentially confounded by variability in insulin secretion. Thus, the indexes derived from fasting insulin and glucose, such as the Homeostasis Model Assessment (HOMA),2 the Quantitative Insulin Sensitivity Check Index (QUICKI),3 and the insulin sensitivity index (ISI) developed by Gutt and coworkers,4 have been more widely used to assess insulin resistance in clinical and populationbased studies.

Insulin resistance in psoriasis: A case-control study

Background: Recent studies suggest that psoriasis may be a pathogenic factor for the metabolic syndrome and atherosclerosis. The aim of our study was to investigate the metabolic state in psoriatic patients in order to clarify the association between psoriasis and insulin resistance. Methods: This single-centre, case- control study was performed between 2008 and 2010 to evaluate the metabo...

O-3: Obesity, Insulin Resistance and Their Correlation with Testosterone Levels in Male Patients

Background: Obesity and insulin resistance refer to a clustering of various medical conditions, with a number of pathological components that contribute to the development of diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Some studies have shown that free testosterone levels are low in obese men and are inversely correlated with the degree of obesity. In addition, leptin levels increases with obesity tha...

Effect of Vanadyl Sulfate on Fructose-Induced Insulin Resistance Rat

Insulin resistance syndrome, also referred to as the metabolic syndrome or syndrome X, refers to a constellation of common metabolic and cardiovascular disorders (e.g. obesity, type 2 diabetes mellitus, hypertension, and dyslipidemia), which are all cardiovascular risk factors. Insulin resistance can be induced by fructose-rich diet in rats. We investigated the effect of vanadyl sulfate (0.2 mg...

اثر مکمل یاری کلسیتریول بر نمایه‌های متابولیک و فشارخون در بیماران دیابتی نوع2: کارآزمایی بالینی تصادفی شده دوسوکور

Background: According to previous studies, vitamin D has an inverse relation with some of the lipid and glucose profiles, and its deficiency is a risk factor for type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of vitamin D (calcitriol) on the blood glucose, lipid and hypertension profile in type 2 diabetic patients. Methods: In this Doubl...

تعیین ارتباط بین آدیپونکتین سرم و مقاومت انسولین، در بیماران دیابت نوع 2

Background and Aim: Obesity is associated with some chronic morbidity including atherosclerosis, hypertension, and type 2 diabetes which are major components of metabolic syndrome. In the present study, association between insulin resistance and adiponectin, as an anti-inflammatory cytokine, in type 2 obese male diabetics was assessed. Materials and Methods: In this descriptive study, fasting s...

Insulin resistance and hypertension: the Insulin Resistance Atherosclerosis study.

The association between insulin resistance and insulinemia and hypertension is controversial. We examined the relation between insulin resistance and hypertension in 564 non-Hispanic whites (NHW), 505 Hispanics (H), and 413 African Americans (AA) who participated in the Insulin Resistance Atherosclerosis Study (IRAS). Insulin sensitivity was measured with a frequently sampled intravenous glucos...
